Sparta Education Foundation Funds Grant for Art & Photo Displays
The end-of-the-year Student Art Gala at Sparta High School will feature professional-grade displays thanks to a grant funded by the Sparta Education Foundation. The Art and Photography Departments submitted the grant in order to have adequate equipment for displaying the creative works of over 600 Sparta High School students.
"These new art display panels will serve all the high school photography, drawing and painting classes," said art and photography teacher Christine Mase. "Display is the equivalent of a performance to a choir, orchestra or play. It is how visual artists perform for the public. The Student Art Gala held every Spring is a curriculum–based exhibit that displays student performance and allows interpreting for the art student. All artwork is student-driven and entirely supported by our curriculum."
"Christine Mase made many excellent points at her grant presentation during our February board meeting," said SEF President Danielle Dykstra. "This art display equipment will give our high school students the appropriate tools they need to properly showcase their artwork. It will also help teach our students how to put together a gallery, a very important skill that some of them will need in their future careers. We are looking forward to seeing all the fantastic work by our high school students which will be exhibited at the Spring Art Gala on this new professional-caliber equipment."
The display equipment includes six folding display panels, each measuring 12-feet wide by 78-inches high. Additionally, the grant funded six folding tabletop display partitions which are each five-feet wide and about three-and-a-half feet tall. The grant totaled $6,703.20.
